For all that he was wise and accomplished himself, he rarely tried to push that wisdom onto others. Instead, he gave them the opportunity to make their own mistakes, and take responsibility for the consequences. She recognized that it was quite the priviledge to have him offer to help her sort out hers, and vowed to herself that she would not squander the goodwill lightly.
