The gods don't seem to be able to remove magic from those born with it, so they seem to remain wary that another like the Voice might arise at some point to challenge them and cause more strife." His smile turned sad as he went to check the last pile of crates, carefully lifting the lid on one. "It might not be fair to individuals without such ambitions, but... people can change. Just because you start out innocent doesn't mean you'll remain that way. And then there are those like Zariah and her Academy... naked ambition to gain even more powerful magic may only make the gods even more suspicious of Abandoned as a whole."
The gleam of metal within the box caught his eye; not the dull matte of iron or even the cold reflection of steel but softer colors of gold and silver. "Ah... this one has jewelry on it. Must have been a shipment in for the wealthy people of this city." Most of it was badly tarnished, but there was some quality workmanship beneath the grime.
