Her response, well… it’s a good one, but not what he means by his upset. She can breathe all she likes so long as he’s not chained to her. But he still is, the ring still sits on his finger despite how he’d taken it off once before. He’d placed it back on, came back to more storms and shadows of a marriage that would never be roses and sunshine. And she knew this going into it, enough that her response does invoke an eyeroll from him. “You know that’s not true.” He tells her, finally deigning to look at her with a dark unreadable look in his gaze.
But when she suggests going back to the Inn, and not back to the portal because it would be getting dark, well… As much as he hates to agree with her, he does, exhaling a short plume of white as he nods, waiting for her to finish up. “We’ll leave first thing in the morning.” He says, with no room for argument. Either she’d come with him or he’d leave on his own. His task here was done.
