Oh there’s some fire to her, as he finds out. And he’s not sure if it’s because he’s drunk, and as tall as he is in comparison to her, but it only adds to the amusement he feels within. Her lip curling – lips that had been so soft, so untried during their time at the river, that he focuses on her rather intently until the bottle comes skidding toward him and she turns her back to him. Ah, so perhaps he’d gotten under a nerve or two.
But she still has his attention, turning toward her with the bottle in hand now as it slides back toward her on the bar and he approaches from behind her, bending down a small amount to hover his head over her shoulder if she seems so insistent on staying. “Oh but I think you do care if I do, Maea.” He hums to her, a bit more serious now, voice deep and rough and relatively tired. “You wouldn’t have snatched it away from me if you didn’t.”
And he thinks that to be true, that the reason she stays is to see what happens. The longer she stays, the likelier it becomes. The likelier he comes to crossing that line, with the humming and purring in her ear.
