“I was pretty sure he died. He looked dead to me. But I guess not. He went to some place called ‘Helovia’ and met Melita’s mother.” Broad shoulders rise and fall in a shrug. “I guess he was a pretty shit father — big surprise, I know — so I’ve been teaching her about Korofi.” He’s not sure when he became so rambly, but before he can accurately realize it, she’s standing before him and he peers down at her.

So he reaches out, aiming to rest his hand on her shoulder to lean on her a small amount, beginning to walk toward the exit of the bar through the back Maea had slipped through. “It’s close. But, uh, follow me since there’s traps and stuff.” He gives her an encouraging grin.
