so you say you want a deathbed scene, the knowledge that comes
before knowledge
and you want it dirty
It's almost a shame when Sunjata's eyes move away from him, shifting over towards his companion instead. Nate feels a little spark of something he can't quite put a name to, something frustrated and wanting, and he steps closer again, all but demanding the other mans attention. "It's a bearable loss, considering I can make up for it." He laughs, and his eyes trail down to the marks on Sunjata's neck, his arm. "I haven't been drunk since I turned though, and that's the real shame."

Haai may have ruined the moment, but that didn't mean there couldn't be others, that he couldn't make a new one. It was always easier to throw himself headfirst into something new than it was to try and deal with his emotions, and Sunjata was something new. Someone newly available. And now that the griffin is distracted, Nate has a chance to build something up again. Test the floodwaters, so to speak.

"What, did you get in a lot of fights or something?" Though theres still that ever present easiness to his voice, Nate has focused a little more, interested in the snippets of the other mans old life. Besides, from the sound of it, it was something he could empathize with, at least a little. He'd been a rowdy kid too. The reassurance has him grinning warmly, though its not really necessary. "I am trained. And I'm not gonna sit here and let you, or anyone, die." So saying, he leans in, temporarily closing the distance between them to tap his fingers against the others jaw, his own kind of reassurance. "Not if I can help it at least."

Nate doesn't move to follow this time, just pivots easily to follow the attuned with his gaze. "I'm not actually sure there's anything that needs to be found for the portals." He offers the information freely, keeping just enough to himself that nothing could be traced back to him. "It's more of a magic thing than a task thing, as far as I've been told." Torchline perks him up. Sam had gone and been back in barely a day, and all Nate decides from that is it's probably a good place to avoid his fellow ascended, for a while at least. "I wouldn't mind a beach vacation. I'll probably need to go anyway, for my Lady," He gave no indication who he was talking about with this, the Voice or Wessex or maybe even Rex, "I might was well kill two birds with one stone, right?" Keep an eye out and discover whatever was needed for the portals next.

"You guys got some kind of initiation? If I was planning on joining?" Which he obviously is, but he might as well be ready if part of it is going to be getting his ass beaten.
and no one can figure out what you want
and you won’t tell them
