THE RESURRECTED SWORD
How did you survive? they ask
How long did you suffer?
how dark did they tint your dreams?
They received several warnings within an instant. The first was the ground beneath his feet groaning, too much bulk, too much mass, too much muscle. The second was an intriguing manic sound, like laughter, but not an even keen, and he tilted his head for a moment at both notions, mind already calculating, already instigating, already provoked into action.

Amalia wouldn’t have to tell him twice. He contorted his weapons and any other manifestations and artifacts into his bag, ready for talons, grateful that despite the amount of items needing to be in the satchel, he wouldn’t feel the massive weight. His eyes darted quickly to Zuriel, a quiet, quick nod of assertion and assurance between the bonded pair, and the unicorn tucked herself neatly into the shadows, following after Amalia’s wake. Then the beast quickly took flight, arms becoming feathers, wings, and plumage, a few gliding maneuvers to get off the fragile ground, hovering after Amalia and Adam, striving to blend into either walls or stone. It was tempting to follow; but if too many of them went ahead without the rest of the party, it’d likely alert the bizarre mess before them.

So he glanced thereafter, studying, still looming, still presiding in a studious wake, and perhaps his eagle gaze would be able to snatch at something else besides the deranged individuals lingering nearby.

--

Deimos shifts into his eagle form, taking his bag and items with him, and follows Amalia and Adam, but doesn’t go around the bend, waiting for any answers or observations. He studies the nearby surroundings. Zuriel tucks herself into the shadows and waits from below.
- until you had blood glistening on your teeth
- until your suffering paled in comparison to their own
- until you learned to enjoy the sounds of screams
