Don't paint wonderful lies on me that wash away
Maea was just as confused at being the target of such compliments. They did not really fit, she felt. Never before had anyone called her powerful, or indeed helpful. Not even Sunjata had said anything about her being pretty... though perhaps it was implied as he couldn't seem to keep his hands off her.
"You exaggerate," she objected, waving a hand as if to dismiss the nice words entirely. "And I just... don't really see the fun in leaving yourself exposed to strangers. It sounds like it's bound to become painful."
It said a lot about her lack of trust in people. Lack of confidence in herself too, perhaps, as she didn't believe she could keep herself safe when left at the mercy of others.
