"On my world the gods didn't tend to respond in quite so, hmmm, personal a manner usually. The frequency with which prayers are answered on a personal level here is... it takes getting used to. And there is definitely a risk of becoming too familiar with the gods, perhaps even taking them dangerously for granted." His smile was faded, his tone cautionary. He hoped that the young woman, being a priestess, would know the dangers of which he spoke.

"And they seem to appear differently to every person. They take the form of whatever you find most pleasing in a partner... even if you didn't realize that was what you were drawn to before," he added ruefully.
