The first hint Loren had of Maea's attack was a flash of heat above him followed by a scalding pain. Still not moving from his spot, he instinctively and immediately pushed against all the water again. The steam only covered the top of his head, about halfway down his forehead before he managed to reverse it, leaving blistered skin in its wake.
Still ignoring the pain and the blood and the wounds, he pulsed outwards again, sending steam, ice, snow, even sweat in another wave around him. This time, though, he kept up the pressure. Seeing as she had only used water magic so far, he just kept the magic pouring out of him.
