Perhaps it’s because his fin is a sensitive part of him, that he can feel her arms tremble ever so slightly once they reach the curves and turns, and he feels the way her knees bump into his back. So he slows a small amount, turning back toward the shallower waters, slowing enough and going with the flow of the water that she can sit upon his back without holding on in case of getting lost, letting her settle with him to try and recoup some of the energy and excitement.
