Loren narrowed his eyes at Maea. "I'm not asking you not to do things. I'm just asking you not to do things while you're distracted." Despite the slightly tart words, his tone was one of gentle concern. "Take it from someone who gets reckless when he's upset, don't rush into things just because you had a fight with Sunjata." This time, he sounded a bit exasperated.
Standing up as she did, he crossed his arms. "I'm not trying to protect you. You want the truth? Fine." He glanced at the door then lowered his voice to a whisper. "There was a large group of cloaked humanoid figures guarding something. I have no idea what it was, and I seriously doubt it was mageglass. I couldn't get a good look at it, though."
He shrugged. "Regardless, I decided it wasn't worth the risk of engaging them when we didn't know what they were, not for rumors of power. That's not worth anyone's life, Maea." Voice still quiet, he sighed. "I won't tell you where it was. If you insist on looking into this, though, at least let me tag along so I can help you avoid the dangers I encountered. Besides, it would be difficult to draw you a map of the tunnels" She knew as much as he did, now, and it would have to satisfy her.
As she mentioned she should go, he pressed his lips together. "Okay." It was clear he was unhappy with the way the conversation had ended, but he made no move to stop her.
