the flood
There were times when Sunjata simply came down to the beach to enjoy it. To watch and find a moment of calm along the waves, along the way the world continued on despite everything else, of the way the Hels and gulls above continued to dive and swerve along the horizon in gilded light and airy flight. There were times when he’d dive in for a swim, times when he just wanted to be with his thoughts — a difficult place to be most days.
Today is one of the latter, sitting among the sand beneath a tree of shade by the waters edge, the world around him continued to move on. He’d brought Haai this time, the griffin spending most of the day sunbathing beneath the rays of the sun before trotting over for the shade, panting as if it wasn’t her fault she’d gotten too warm.
He sticks his fingers into her fur, running them through and feeling the warmth of it, the way the black to her pelt matched and mimicked the deep navy of his tattooed arm, glancing up when something catches his eye. The glint of something in a stranger's hand glimmering as he walked this way. But really? It wasn’t any of Sunjata’s business, and he draws his legs up a bit more beneath him, continuing to pet the griffin along her fur and beneath her wings.
