In the breaths between his hesitation and revelation your brain fills in scenarios. Idiot, knew you shouldn't have invited him now, gonna wind up being some sort of doll-collecting vegetarian murderer-

You raise an eyebrow skeptically at the revelation, looking Red up and down with your lips pursed. "What, like... A bloodsucker? You?" In this moment, two things may become obvious to Sam:
1. You very much doubt he's Ascended, and
2. You have a very flawed idea of what an Ascended is
