Of course, as Sam flinches and tries to avoid her onslaught of nudges and pestering – it only seems like a challenge to the griffin. She tries to edge herself in further to try and get her nose pressed against Sam’s leg – but soon enough, Sunjata’s there – reaching for the scruff of the griffin and pulling her to the side even as she protests and huffs quiet growls of annoyance. But she settles just enough that Sunjata can focus on Samuel, letting his gaze lift to the man as he places his legs back down to the floor, a dark brow threatening to raise as Sam stutters.
Has he ever heard Sam stutter like that before? He hasn’t, and part of that is worrying in itself. And at the end of the day, Sunjata’s not heartless. So he crouches beside the bench, keeping a hand on Haai to keep her from diving toward the man and his legs again, his head tilting slightly as he considers it. It’s sort of an answer but it starts more questions in its wake, and Sunjata has to fight the slight frustration with it as his free hand comes up to rest at his gut, hovering over the stitches who’s bumps can be seen somewhat through the fabric.
“What happened?” He asks instead, pretty sure that Sam wouldn’t tell him, but finding it was worth a shot anyway. Again, Sunjata doesn’t really have anything against the other Ascended, nothing incredibly personal like what was between Nate and Sam. But perhaps it was important enough to ask about.
