The rugs unexpectedly fought back, but Jigano was used to the perils of these tasks by now, and though he stumbled and fell he picked himself up again no worse for wear; not enough, at least, to prevent him from laying the rest of the moss-filled rugs out. After a little while he took a break to stretch and then strove again, strumming the strings of Fire into his most comfortable chord as he constructed lanterns and candle holders, determined to protect the flames this year and keep them contained, so that no unattended fire could start the way it had last year.
