Soap suds and water ran gray into the drain. It could have been some metaphor for inner cleansing, how the boy finally realized the depth of his folly and let go of the darkness, the self-destruction... but things were never that simple. It was just hot water and soap, not magical potions. The healer that entered found Korbin just as contrary as he had been with Chulane, and in the end, all she was permitted to heal was the cut on his hand. She left the washroom in a huff, raging about fools and children and unrelated things and managed to include Chuy in the scolding too before she left.
A few minutes later, the water was turned off within, and Korbin emerged in the door. Supported against the wall, he looked both better and worse at the same time. The borrowed clothes did not fit well, and the bruising on his face stood out starkly against skin so pale it was almost gray. Though his gaze was a bit clearer than before it was no less wary. He eyed Chulane darkly from under the damp tendrils of dark hair, as if trying to predict what new humiliations he would be forced to suffer through next.
"If you expect me to be grateful for any of this, you are dead wrong," he said eventually.
