If Sam had known how intensely Finn was judging him for being Ascended, he would have been deeply uncomfortable; as it was he was happy to make a friend, especially one that seemed as mild and polite as this one. "It has been. When I first came here..." He laughed, shaking his head. "...I was so excited to see the ocean I just ran right to it and jumped in. I'd only ever seen the Oasis in the Grounds before." That never could have prepared him for the stretching horizon of waves that was the ocean, the glistening water that went on seemingly forever.
"Oh? Do you work for someone?" He asked, wondering if perhaps Finn was some kind of courier: he wasn't sure of many other jobs that required too much travel, though Sam would be the first to admit he was not the most worldly. As for himself, he found that he was quite excited to say for the first time: "Oh, well, I'm hoping to be a Cartographer. I've been making books for many years and I wanted a new challenge...maps are certainly a different thing altogether."
