He was so consumed with his own experience, his own grief, he'd hardly had room to consider what others were going through. Grief did awful things to a person, and as the vet watched the other man's expression, he sensed the bone-tired weariness that plagued him, the effects that the world and its torturous devices had on him. And he hated himself for initially wanting to turn away, for wanting to shut it out, to deny it, to not care…
But then he took a deep, albeit shaky breath, and he kept pushing his fingers through the fur on Astra's head, watching as the other man nudged the spoon closer to him. Life went on, as cruel as it was, it kept going whether you went with it or not. "Tell me about it..?" The words came in a low whisper, a first, true question; not a sarcastic rebuttal but a true offer to the man.
As if obeying a silent deal between them, Chuy reached properly for the spoon that was not-so-subtly being nudged towards him, sighing a breath before dipping it into the stew almost experimentally. He'd eat, if Loren talked.
