"I don't know." She raises his hand up to her face, setting his palm against her cheek and leaning into the caress. "It's strange. I don't know how to explain it. It feels like this is all too good. Like I don't deserve to be here, as happy as I am." And yet here she is, perfectly comfortable in this kitchen she does not know, wanting desperately to belong.
At his joke about rubbing off on her. she wrinkles her nose, opening her eyes to glare playfully at him as color floods into her cheeks. "I take it back. You're horrible." She may have opened up to new experiences with Adam - many, many new experiences - but Amalia is still something of a prude when it comes to actually discussing sex.
Releasing him at last, Amalia shakes her head ruefully and picks up the cup of tea. It tastes like nostalgia and yearning and ginger; she hums a note of appreciation, once more closing her eyes. "Do I do the right thing, Adam?" she wonders, and suddenly she's not talking about the dream. Reality cuts through like a knife, the metallic gleam of it glittering behind the veneer of the dream. Dark eyes flutter open; she stares into the tea. "Leaving him? I didn't want to hurt him, I just... couldn't do it anymore. I couldn't keep lying to myself."
