CHULANE
why do things happen with no reason or rhyme?
why does it feel like we're running out of time?
Chulane watched the ascended closely, taking a step closer as certain details started to fall into place in his mind. Grief had slowed his mind down, fatigue had added an extra foggy layer - he wasn't thinking as fast as he usually might.

A small frown creased the lines of his forehead. "It's LongHeat," he confirmed, though Halo's version of LongHeat only barely involved actual heat. But as he got closer to the ascended - retreating a step again as the Hailstorm rose, and then promptly sat down again - he realised something was properly awry.

"Neron," he said simply, coming in close, dropping his bag unceremoniously in the snow to sit beside the ascended on the step. He raised a palm to Neron's forehead, as a nurse might, curious at the sweat the ascended had.

Weren't ascended meant to be impervious to illness? Wasn't part of their appeal their longevity, their ability to go on and on, to endure, to survive things others might not?

"Let's get you inside, Neron." He commanded gently, making to help lift the ascended under his arms, and somehow get them through the door. The success of this whole venture relied entirely on the willingness and condition of the other man, however.
how do we keep going, through the dark?
why are we here at all, lost in the dark?
