It's like watching the world through a window, knowing the horror about to come but unable to warn them; Sunjata joked and smiled at Nate as if he couldn't see the writhing mass that had replaced his face, didn't know what fate was about to befall him. Sam was on the verge of tears trying to warn him, to think of a way to let him know -- then suddenly Sunjata was growling at him, words he didn't understand. At first he thought maybe he just couldn't comprehend it in his panic, but one look at the man's face told him otherwise.
Not quite a monster, but seemingly on the monster's side. Sam put his hands over his head, now sure he was trapped. Between the both of them, Sunjata and Nate could absolutely keep him here, do whatever it was worm-men and their accomplices liked to do to hostages.
Nate jumped before Sunjata, spoke in the same words: probably discussing just how they could destroy him, Sam wagered. Shaking, he decided to use the moment of distraction to move, to ignore the way he wanted to curl up and hide and try to escape; he knew it may well be his last chance to do so. Slowly, he began to crawl around the edge of the room towards the door, hoping to slip by unnoticed while the beasts spoke.
