NATE
Voices in his head have very much been a part of his day to day life for... well, as much as he can remember at the moment, memories touched and tainted by the illness running through him as much as everything else. This one though, is different, calling to him softly, so much so that Nate nearly misses it, walking back to the portal (he thinks) as he is. He supposes a short detour can't hurt too much, after his feet have already turned to follow the voice. Pemota lets out a mournful cry as he does, the sole voice of reason available to him, her disapproval a strange tender spot in his head, easy to ignore so long as he didn't poke at it, like a pulled tooth.
A group is not what he expects to encounter, especially not one so almost familiar. At least, one face is familiar, the rest of them hazy strangers. Loren, and Loren-but-a-little-off stand out on the ice, the direction the voice is calling, and he'll be damned before he lets himself be shown up by Loren's. It's a point of pride, some slight that he can't remember, except to be angry about it.
Without an ounce of hesitation or worry, Nate ignores the rest of those waiting on the shore and steps out onto the ice, keeping his feet where it seems thickest, though with three abandoned's reinforcing it, he seems to be spoiled for choice. Pemota drifts ahead of him, trying to navigate the safest path she can, knowing already her bonded is going to make awful decisions no matter how she feels about them.
