eyes can't shine unless there's something burning bright behind
Aurelia turned her eyes to the galleon, admiring its structure. She was intimidated beneath its towering visage. Her gaze raked up the sturdy wooden beams, over the windows for the cannons, and finally to the dark red sails.

Her feet felt like immovable stones for a moment when she realized he had said 'after you'. She checked back on him, eyeing his person. She turned and stepped up the bridge, gripping the rope rail as she went.

"In my city-" she sucked in a sharp breath and paused when the ship lurched. She could hear the distant rumble of voices from somewhere inside the ship, or perhaps it was a nearby ship. She let out her breath and continued, "in my city, Oreville, magic is forbidden by law. Because of the destruction it causes, because magic is evil."

At that point, they were upon the ship and Aurelia stepped aside to allow him room. She didn't know any other line of thought surrounding the issues of magic. Nor had she ever spoke to anyone who outwardly thought the use of magic was justified. Magic had taken everything from her, as well as many other people she knew. It was still fucking her over, actually. His notion of 'magic is alright' wasn't all that compelling to her.

"Jack, right? What you're suggesting... that some goddess I've never heard of called me here for no discernable reason, with no explanation..." she trailed off. Suddenly, she laughed, bringing her hand up to her forehead as she shook it back and forth, "that's insane! Why?!"

She stifled her exasperation as she watched what he was going to do next. She knew nothing about the ship or who it might occupy, and she did not intend on walking in on something she shouldn't. She did take a glance around, but nothing particularly struck her as odd. Then again, she didn't really know what to expect.
