that perches in the soul

Aware she was taking up his time, despite presuming it’d be something he’d enjoy, her strides were considerably less casual. No stroll, no listless, languid pace, but a stretched out accordance of her more energetic pace, a gleam in her eye, a smile beneath the wake of stars both real and infinite. She led him down the path that would direct him immediately towards the Tower once he was done, where it stood like a beacon further north, monstrous and monolithic where the rest of the scenery was tranquil and serene. Rounding the corner, and another, brought them towards the designated enclosure, where the creature, healed and still, would lift its head, offer a soft nicker in greeting.

From there, Lena grinned all the more, and extended her hand out to Finn, intending to place more treats into his palm. “I’ll leave you to it, then.” And she backed away, for she’d see the unicorn again in the morning, before it hailed off to its herd, back to home. “Thank you for the help and company today,” Lena laughed, but meant it. It was nice to have another intrigued, interested in her charges, no matter how foolish they might’ve been (and she loved them all). “See you next time,” and with a wink, the basket was once more over her shoulder, and she made due on her promise, permitting him to relish the time available and left with the equine.
