i want to taste you again
It's a rare thing, for the Ark to set sail before LeafChange truly begins. An even rarer thing to have reason behind the rhyme, but here we are. The ship is out on official business, as is evidenced by the fact that the fucking Governor of all people has been invited along for the ride. Is Jack happy about this? Happier than Zephyr is, he imagines; even so, the captain stands at the wheel as they cut through the lazy waves of mid-morning, leaving Haulani far behind them.

"It's never been done," he's informing Sunjata and Zephyr, wherever they might be. "I've sailed every inch of these waters available to me, an' I'm tellin' you, what we're tryin' has never been done." But he's heard of people trying to get through the jungles as of late. Of creeping vines and molten tigers. And hell, if anyone can do the impossible, it's the Ark and her crew.

This is the Set Sail PQ+!

The following characters are involved:

1. Sunjata
2. Zephyr

the sea speaks a little more honestly
He hasn’t been on a ship out in the ocean in a very long time. Nor has he been out on one with a group of people that didn’t particularly consider him a friend of sorts – indeed, the Flood lingers by his niece, back up against the rail of the Ark, letting his gaze drift back toward Jack as he speaks while Haai flies an easy arc above the ship. If he’s being honest, he’s got nothing to deny what Jack says on the possibility of it being done before, if anything the governor is just along for the ride.

I can scout both sky and water.” He offers to Jack – an attempt of coming onto this voyage as a brief peace offering – with his orca shift that could linger below and the dragon that could haunt the sky. He’s prepared as much as he can be, he thinks, pushing off of the bannister to nudge Melita with his elbow and a roguish grin, before approaching Jack and wherever Zeph is. “Any idea of what we might encounter?” Even if Jack doesn’t have an idea, Sunjata can’t help but to ask.

Sunjata arrives with the following:

HAAI - Mythical - Griffin (Fire breath)

Type: Grey
hEARs | An earring that when worn, increases the sound of voices (especially whispers)

Type: Grey
Flooded Brass Knuckles | brass knuckles inlaid with sapphires. When something is hit with these, jets of water pour from the sapphires with shocking force. Made by Remi.

Type: Dark
Trident Daggers (Upgraded) | Two daggers perfectly weighted and sculpted for Sunjata. One can shoot fire in a 5ft arc and the other electricity.
to those who are willing to drown
SUNJATA

Feel free to use magic/force on Sunjata, without killing him <3
Sunjata speaks with an Australian accent and has a passive magic that makes him produce a subtle scent that matches exactly to whatever those around him most desire him to smell like.

just take your time wherever you go
The Ark was out on official business indeed and Saiden was probably about as annoyed as Jack was about it. The cook didn't particularly like having landlubbers aboard who'd just get in the way when something inevitably went wrong. Luckily, the Hali had already fed the crew, so was left to his own devices.

Which at the moment meant he was coiling some rope up on deck. He had a cutlass strapped to his waist and some vials tucked into his belt pouch. A breeze carried the captain's voice to Saiden, although he was careful to keep his back to Jack and his two companions. The cook didn't know how the captain would react to eavesdropping, but he figured he'd rather not find out.

Saiden has a cutlass and a few vials from his cauldron:

Type: Light
Magic Cauldron | Saiden has come into possession of a magic cauldron that produces potions with a variety of effects. Every day the type of potion randomly changes and the previous day's potions become inert. When consumed, the effect for each day is chosen by a random dice roll, 1-4. There is no way to determine the effect of the potion without ingesting it. The effects are as follows: +1 to Dexterity and +1 Endurance for the rest of the thread, +2 to Luck for the rest of the thread, truth potion, hallucinogenic potion. The effects of the potion dissipate at the end of a thread, and other individuals can consume potions.

Like some child possessed, the beast howls in my veins
They were sailing before the stretch of autumn, before the leaves began their inevitable change, before the warm, hot season ended. She might’ve been all the more perplexed by it had Zeph and Sunjata not been involved; which meant there could be other ulterior motives at play. Or nothing at all, and she was reading into it too much.

The youth was tempted to act quite mulishly towards her uncle, but perhaps now wasn’t the time. Enticing, to be a defiant little brat, to be irritated and annoyed that he still said nothing to her about his recent shifts in roles. She would’ve congratulated him. Told him a whole multitude of things (that she was proud, and he needed to actually think for once, and that she’d always have his back). Instead, there was nothing from either.

Her brows furrowed and she merely tucked her bag over her shoulder, shoving her elbow back towards her uncle, and then surveying the scene, before taking her place near her usual cannon comrades.

Melita is bringing:

FANGORN - Mythical - Vampire Gourd

•  Type: Light
Water Dancer | This delicate anklet, when worn, allows the user to step upon the surface of water as though it was solid as the ground. Can be used once per thread.

•  Type: Light
Bowstring Bracelet | At first this bracelet appears only as a length of intricately braided bowstring. But with an arrow in hand, upon miming the action of knocking and drawing it, the user will feel a bow beneath their fingers, as if it was there all along.

•  Type: Dark
Siabhran | A staff reinforced with the sap of a Wicker Woman. Black as pitch and veined with amber, this staff is nigh unbreakable. Those who are struck with it may experience mild hallucinations lasting up to ten minutes.

•  Type: Dark
Fire/Lightning/Ice Quiver | A magical quiver with two compartments. In one, it turns any arrow placed within into a flaming projectile when shot. In the other, the arrow becomes imbued with electricity. (Made by Remi)

see the sunset turning red let all be quiet in your head and look about
You're already leaning on the railing of the Ark, glaring furiously at the waves and wondering how the fuck you got yourself into this nightmare. You've practically doused yourself in Vai's Vomit-Tonic, but still you can feel the age-old nausea rolling around in your stomach, far less steady than the rather calm sea. "Then let's go back," you snap at Jack grumpily, not for the first time and not for the last. "If it can't be done why th'fuck're we doin' it?"

Big words from a man now stuck on a boat.

Obligatory grumbling aside, you can't deny that this whole thing is pretty fucking great. Wind in your hair, the endless ocean, the not-vomiting, the smell of salt and sea: it reminds you that you would have been a sailor had your body not rebelled.

Zeph is grumpy.

He's got:
Type: Light
Carpet | Can fly with 2 human-sized creatures on it. Can only reach a maximum height of 20ft

Type: Grey
Bag of Holding | A bag that can hold an infinite number of items, so long as they fit within the bag's 3ft x 3ft opening. The bag always feels nearly weightless, but always looks about 75% full.
--> it has a bunch of crap. Rope, molotovs-to-be, plenty of booze, throwing knives (lol), extra clothes, etc

Type: Dark
Panther Claws | Gloves tipped with the formidable claws of a sea panther. They will make a fine weapon.

There are times when the unseen can be even more dangerous than what our eyes behold
Whale, whale, whale. There seems to be so much commocean today out on the seas, and onboard the Ark, many emoceans as well. The crew seem unhappy that Sunjata's promocean to Governor has allowed him to invite himself on this trip, but if the Ark wants to sea herself in one piece at the end of today, they really otter take advantage of having a dragon in their midst.

From what Jack knows of previous voyages out into these waters, the Ark can:

1. Hug the coastline and risk decimating her hull on the reefs and jagged rocks that hide beneath the dark waters
2. Take the direct route, through which ghost whales are often seen, or,
3. Take a wider path out in the ocean where few have gone. What troubles this might bring are unknown, as are what treasures.

For this round you can decide amongst yourselves OOC what path you're going to take, and then do your best to set up the Ark to succeed !

Like some child possessed, the beast howls in my veins
There’d already been a pre-established idea of the adventure today: to sail beyond the known, the understood, the comprehended waves. Easily compelled into these ideals, the youth had wholeheartedly proclaimed her intent. Though she’d only sailed one season, the honeybee youth could concur wildly – the taste for adventure already scorching past her temper, riding along the undulating waves. To see what few had seen. To embark upon a journey few had noted. To discover exciting or treacherous wares. And then make it back safely – a worthy goal, but enough of an aspiration to not nettle and warp her bones.

So Melita applied herself as best she could with what she understood the most – manning her station, rigging lines accordingly, checking over the cannons, and their munition supplies. She had no intention of a repeat of last time – where she’d been burned, where her own favored weaponry had bit back, or of disrupting any potential necessity for attack. One less trial, one less tribulation, in the pursuit of preparation (something this world had taught her; because sometimes there was no use for impulsivity). She'd embark in favor of any other necessities required or orders barked.

Into the unknown! Melita attempts to prepare the cannons and anything else needed.

"We're doin' it," Jack says to Zeph, "precisely because it ain't ever been done before." The captain's grin is fierce, and with the blue of the sky reflected in his eyes and the sway of the sea beneath his feet, there's something about him that seems more alive than it ever does on shore. The sea is in their blood, and Zeph knows it as well as any else. Whistling for one of the deckhands to take the wheel (but lingering nearby just in case he's needed), he approaches a bench currently pinning down the map he's laid out there, along with a compass and a sextant.

It's true, they'd already decided their course prior to leaving, and it's pretty much go where no one else has been. Jack's not stupid, though, and he's marked out their voyage right up until where it drops off the map. "Scout the sky, if you'd be so kind Governor," he requests of Sunjata. "An' Saiden - keep our sails full!"

To Zeph, he offers a lopsided smile. "Be my navigator, won'tcha? I lost my last one." He taps the map, then retakes the wheel.

Melita already knows what she's doing, so Jack advises Sunjata to scout the skies for them, for Saiden to keep their sails full to pick up speed, and for Zephyr to keep his eyes on the map and the direction they're headed. Meanwhile, he takes the wheel to steer the ship.

Saiden could hear Jack calling without the help of the handy breeze. Obviously the cook was going to do whatever the captain wanted. Setting the rope down, the Hali cupped his hands around his mouth and yelled back. "Aye, aye cap'n!" At the mention of Elo, his jaw tightened and his eyes glittered. However, he pushed thoughts of her to the back of his mind, knowing now was not the time to grieve.

Instead he turned towards the sails. Making sure they were fully raised (and shouting at the sailors if they weren't) Saiden would lift his arms. A full-on wind would spring up as he tapped into his air magic, causing the sails to billow.

Into the unknown! Saiden uses his air magic to fill the sails.

Air manipulation: Can manipulate the air. Must be within a 30ft radius and allows the user to levitate medium-large sized objects up to 5ft above the ground . Control is excellent.

i am on a journey to discover what it's like to be free of all my demons
If this helps Sunjata and Jack’s relationship, then so be it. The Flood gives a short nod to Jack, stepping past Mel and flashing her an amused grin, before he gets a bit of a running start toward the end of the ship, shifting at first into his macaw form as to not accidentally break anything on the ship as he rises in height. But when he’s made a bit of clearance, the feathers retract to smooth, armored plates, his body growing tremendously in size until the black dragon hovers above the ship, large wings pounding down to gain a bit more altitude.

He ventures forward ahead of the Ark and to the left a small amount, hoping the gusts of his wings don’t interfere with the ship, steel eyes peeled for anything or interest, suddenly realizing he has no way to fully communicate with the crew aside from flying back.

Hopefully nothing takes him down.

Into the unknown! Sunjata shifts to Dragon!Jata and scouts ahead and to the left of the boat for anything interesting.

As much as you'd like to maintain your position as resident stick-in-the-mud, you can't deny the bright crackle of youthful delight as you meet Jack's sea-blue eyes. Time was you'd get on a boat and damn the consequences, spending nights out beneath the stars, hopping between islands on only a raft. But your body is older and less forgiving now, and you've lost your youthful luster to the wounds of time.

But the water never leaves your veins.

"Been known t'read a map'r two in my time." This is an understatement, actually - you're pretty damn good at navigating, your intimate knowledge of the Fingers being evidence of that fact. Resigned to having no real say in how far away from shore the boat gets, you snatch the map and a compass and make your way to sit near Jack at the helm, tracking the receding shoreline and giving directions to the captain when you see fit, though more for your own amusement than any actual failing on his part.

Zeph grabs the compass and map and reveals that he is a very obnoxious competent navigator

Hopefully, Zephyr doesn't saboatage the mission with his poor navigation skills, though Schooner or later it'll become clear whether or not he's shore about what he's doing. With dragon!Jata as the offishell off-boat look-out and Saiden pumping the sails full of hot air, Jack 's Ark is well on her way out into uncharted territory. Hopefully Melita keeps the canons ready, oar the Ark could be in trouble.

Sunjata will be the first to see what appears to be two long snake-like creatures, knotted together, thrashing on the surface of the water. About 20ft long each of them, these pale dragon-cousins appear only moments away from drowning, bound together as their bodies are. With no wings and only pathetically small arms and legs at either end of their bodies, the cloud wyrm have no chance of untangling themselves on their own. Known for seeking out treasure, perhaps whatever has brought them down from the skies is worth checking out. Then again, perhaps it isn't.

Not really a dilemma, but a snag in scouting plans caused her to glance upwards at her now draconic uncle. How was he going to inform any of them of treacherous things around – unless he immediately left, and kept flying around for ages? Not the greatest use of energy, especially if something was truly powerful and potent out there – and he’d run the risk of injuring himself (again). From what she could recall from everyone’s abilities, though Jack remained a mystery (and she preferred it that way, thanks), no one was Attuned. No links shared.

With a sigh, she waved her arms, in hopes he’d catch her movement, and hopefully, with the range of her ability to scream and screech, howl and beckon, Sunjata would be able to hear her. Cupping her hands around her mouth, she hollered along the seas. “Can you let us know if you spot something? Like…move a wing in that direction..?” Or roar? Bellow? That way the rest of the ship could scope and search?

--

Since she can’t see anything yet, Melita suggests communication towards Sunjata. XD

And away they go, cutting through the waves like a knife through silk, and with Zeph giving him shit (and navigating, he supposes) and Saiden making sure the sails stay full, it looks like wherever they'll be going, they'll be getting there quickly. Granted, the captain is momentarily distracted by the huge fucking dragon that soars overhead, and Jack reminds himself not to get on their new Governor's bad side if he wants to actually live until next LongHeat.

But then Melita's screaming at the dragon and Jack is squinting up at the skies, only to hear the colossal beast roar something in return (he thinks). And then he's squinting ahead of them, grabbing for a spyglass and holding it to his eye to gaze upon the entangled cloud wyrms. "Well fuck," he hisses, wishing there were an easier way to contact Sunjata. "Saiden, slow us down! See if we can get close enough to reel 'em in."

Jack spies the cloud wyrms in his spyglass after the warning from Jata (permission given by Sky) and calls for Saiden to slow them down. He suggests they might be able to reel the wyms in to disentangle them.
