"We can if you insist, but that tends to get messier rather than more simple," he points out, glancing from the necklace and then out to the ocean. "What kind of reckless does Iris prefer, love? Does she get on a boat never to be seen again? Does she fling herself from the cliffs where the Aumakua overlooks the sea? Or," he ponders, seeming to catch on that idea, "does she meet with some unsavoury sorts in Rae's Fingers, who kill her for her pretty little gems?"
He tilts his head at the emeralds. "Those would fetch for a lot on the black market. Fenced into the right hands, we could make it so that the family knows they are yours, but they go after the entirely wrong people about it."
