And when it reemerges a second later, there is the massive ghost manticore, a perfect target for a furious beast. With a weird unsettling howl it surges back up, dark teeth snapping around the ghostly figure. They do no damage, but instead the shark itself convulses in cold and pain, thrashing back onto the ground and vanishing into the dust.
Meanwhile, Ronin's nimbus continues to be spun around by the wind. This time it is he who smacks into a cactus, its long spines pricking him gently through his shirt- but ah, that's enough. Just like his husband the Dark Star will begin to see things that aren't there, though in his case they are more convincing, less dancing shadow and more detailed spectre.
If there is one silver lining to be found, it is that off to the south a four-legged figure appears. The creature is one Remi and Ronin may recognize as a qilin, though a different color from Amalia. Like a mirage it ripples and flickers, brightly lit against the storm. Before you can be sure it's there it turns and strides into the wind.
