Oh this is going swimmingly. Spinning and dazzled and hearing Remi have a conversation with absolutely no one at all, Ronin is trying to heed Alina's words and straighten up enough that she can advise them which way is west, when cactus spines prang him through his coat and other protections. "Ow," he announces; somewhere behind him (or above? below?) a landshark howls, and his husband does battle.
Before he can decide to finish off the creature, making sure it can't come after them again, something else catches his eye. It isn't Jata, it isn't a qilin... it isn't even an it. It's a them. People. Swathes of them, marching forlornly across the sand. There are people down there, in the dust storm, he whispers through the Attuned bond to Remi, utter terror in his voice. "We have to save them."
Giving Alina no warning this time, the Star drops into a freefall with his nimbus, trying to get close to the ground so he can corral the suffering wanderers.
Ronin hallucinates that there are people wandering the desert below, and tries to save them.
