Between the fur and the words that leave Sunjata, the ascended is interested, all but chomping at the but to see this new shift. When his husband says he needs space, Nate shifts, pressing back against the headboard and losing out on some of the warmth to instead watch the shift, the shrinking and the reshaping into soemthing that seems so Sunjata it’s almost a wonder that it’s new. And immediately Nate knows the other man is right, knows this is his favourite, knows it’s going to be fun to keep this secret.
”And I thought I was a dog person.” The joke rolls off his tongue so easily, Nate doesn’t even seem to have realized he’s made it, hands rising to tangle in the fur beneath newly pointed ears. The question snaps him out of his reverie, the distracted motion of finger rubbing soft curled into Sunjatas neck. I love it. Theres not an ounce of falsehood in Nate’s voice, his words more than proven by the way he leans in to press his cheek against his husband, leaning into his arm, soft fur.
It’s already his favourite, a fact that Nate makes clear by the way he shifts suddenly, pulling Sunjata back into his arms, into his lap, and snuggling close to him. Now we just need Haai and Pem in here, and it’ll be real cozy.
