She heard them before she saw them, the stirring of branches and leaves making her eyes snap to attention. The first one she saw was Haai, her multi-colored feathers sweeping back and forth in a friendly display. A relieved smile crossed her face and she welcomed the griffin, dropping her stance and her hand, extending toward the companion so she might pet her. "Hello, Haai," she said in a laugh, much more trusting of the animal than she previously had been. If anything, she was glad to have her accompany them. An extra set of eyes and ears, especially since they were the sharpened senses of an animal, would be much appreciated.
Lifting her brows, she eyed Sunjata as he appeared in the wake of his excited companion. "A bird, uh?" she gave a brief, playfully scolding look at Haai, unaware of the lie in his words. "I'm sure we'll see plenty more." She straightened up, eyeing the pack strung to his back and {more particularly} the impressive set of daggers at his hip.
As her gaze settled back onto his face, it darkened at the sight of the bruises that dappled his face. "So... are you going to tell me what happened to your face? Or are we going to pretend you don't look like shit?" She frowned, crossing her arms over her chest and tilting her chin to peer up at him. Skepticism hid her concern, a brow arching. Although, it didn't quite make its way to her eyes, which remained wide with worry.
