JEREMY I picked up a bar tab and drank myself stupid; I flirted with strangers just to feel attractive The door was answered by a young lady who at least had the decency to give him a name, which was a better start than the last person he'd had a conversation with here. The smile was a welcome change too, which Jeremy returned. Looking behind her in the door, he wasn't sure if this was some kind of hospital or a house, but it looked like somewhere warm he could sit for ten minutes with his head in his hands. Hoping the smell of whatever drink they'd given him in the pub wasn't too strong on his breath, he spoke. "Hey, Miss. I'm uh...This is gonna sound stupid. But I'm in a bad way, I don't know where I am. I know you must think I'm just being a senile old man and hell, maybe I am..." He'd lost the point a little bit. Jeremy cleared his throat and continued. "I was wondering if I could trouble you for ten minutes indoors and a bit of information about where I am? The last person I asked wasn't helpful at-fucking-all...oh. 'Scuse the language, Miss." He was being as polite as he could be, a call back to his upbringing that no longer came natural after years of frank talking with his wife and colleagues.
