Curiosity killed the Outlander

JEREMY I picked up a bar tab and drank myself stupid; I flirted with strangers just to feel attractive Ascended...? Deities...? These words implied a million philosophical dilemmas that Jeremy wasn't ready to face. He had spent the last two decades arguing that there was no God, so to have someone tell him so confident that there were multiple...and he couldn't disprove it. He knew nothing of the place. Upon hearing it was a midwifes clinic, Jeremy glanced about and realised what some of things he saw were. He had never had much patience for babies, particularly - neither had Diana, which was one of the reasons they had wed at first. An agreement to only ever be them, to have a house that was distinctly adult with fine oak furnishings and cream carpets that rarely ran the risk of stains. Her comments about business made him laugh despite everything happening in his head. "Guess that is the way of things, huh? I should probably find my own place before your boom of ladies in here wailin' their heads off." "You uh...ain't got a kid of your own, though? You look young for it." Jeremy took a drink of his tea. "My wife. She's a nurse. Started off at a chemists. She didn't deliver babies but she helped a lot of people...it's a good thing to do. Better than sitting around writing fucking essays all day like I do. From what I've seen 'round here there isn't much use for philosophy."
