Only thereafter could the rest of her mind keep up with his statements, the flattened wake, the emotionless echoes, where he’d hardened like a rock, like a stone, and only said what was necessary. “Okay,” she swallowed down, bearing the information – bodies nailed to walls, messages left likely unanswered.
