The more things change, the more they stay the same. Nate feels whole again, healthy and refreshed in a way that he can’t even remember experiencing before. Exhaustion still sags his shoulders, weighs heavy on his eyelids, but thankfully, he knows a quick way to wake himself up.
There is exactly one good thing about the Grounds, and it is a little, dimly lit, conveniently unlocked room.
The plan is simple, satisfy himself a little, drift into a motionless not-quite sleep, and return home in the evening. He’s looking forward to that as much as he’s dreading it, Nate unsure how to explain his new role with the Voice without inciting worry and panic. For the moment though, he doesn’t have to think about that, doesn’t have to think about anything at all.
His one eyed gaze falls upon Sam without really seeing him at first, though once the shape registers Nate can scarcely look away. ”Sam.” Nate rumbles the name of his once lover like a question, though it’s not quite clear what the rest of the question is. Something in between what are you doing? and mind if I join?.
