Nates rage can’t sustain itself for long, choking out into an ashy, sputtering cloud in his throat, making his voice raspier and his eyes watery. Some part of him, some stubborn pride, or holdover from childhood keeps him from shedding those tears right now though, no matter how he needs them.

Nate pulls Hotaru close, an arm sweeping up her side to cup her head gently. It takes him a moment to decide he doesn’t actually want to stand anymore, and a moment longer to decide how to pull Ru down with him, but when he moves it’s a smooth drop to the floor.
