For all the the things that could have come, all the distractions and excuses and reasons to pause the beginning of his temporary separation, this is among the best. If she is sure, eager to once again be face to face with family, Nate will waste no time, letting his coat be used again as he leads them through town, towards the edges of the beach, where cliffs rise up over the ocean, and a just barely visible impression of candlelit windows wafts through the rainy nighttime haze.
