The Star was brought back from the dead, yes, and for that anyone should be grateful. But consent was something not always freely given, even when someone said yes, and thank you.
The smile on Remi's face is not one of amusement nor one that minimizes Hotaru's pain. Instead, it's a dark understanding of what she'd done to Sunjata. "I'm sure it hardly helped." He muses with a shake of his head; actual violent revenge rarely lived up to the daydreams of it. "I love Ronin more than I love myself. I think...only unhealthy love, truly lasts. It's the only kind that can withstand the terrible things we do to one another." Because if Remi or Ronin had any sort of sense, they'd likely have left each other a thousand times over. But they didn't, because their love prevailed, even when it wasn't a good idea.
"And now Nate is a demigod, and it was all for nothing anyway." Because whatever Safrin had promised, surely now there was no hope in her fulfilling her side. "And Safrin got everything she wanted."
