She rolls her eyes to him and he shakes his head with a snort. “Hey, in all fairness, pearls were my mother’s favorite.” He adds his own little tidbit of information there, before he’s plucking the pearls from her hand and offering her an easy nod. “They are quite abundant here.” He offers her with a small half smile, letting the weight loosen on his shoulders in easy acceptance of taking her to find pearls.
But she’s angled a bit more toward him, moving her hair so he might place the necklace on her neck, and he sets it right along her collarbone where faded marks he’d left remain behind. “I did nothing to deserve the basket you brought, so consider us even.” He offers her, fingers brushing against her neck as he moves to clasp the necklace together, before he’s pulling away. “There, lovely as ever.” His arm returns to the back of the couch and Sunjata scans her over as he nestles in a bit more on the couch — still close, but no longer hovering.
“How have you been, though?” He asks her, recalling the dark smudges beneath her eyes and the general exhaustion that seemed to weigh heavily on her shoulders.
