Wessex should be able to easily pass the ascended on the other side of the ladder, yes. However, she doesn't. Each rung she grabs seems to spawn another, and as she climbs, she remains in precisely the same place. Unable to reach Nephele 's shadow, it's only as she uses her and Nate 's shadows to keep the other ascended back that Wessex will find she's making slight progress.

Meanwhile, Nate stomps his boots and drops a knife onto Wessex? And here we thought you were more cutthroat than that. His arrow whistles toward Nephele 's other wing, piercing part of the outer edge now, and leaving Nate about one rung from the top of the tower.

It's Nephele 's fingertips in her palms that end up doing the trick, and as she backs up toward the glow, it welcomes her. She disappears in a crackle of light, leaving only the sound of 'laughter' having apparently come from Wessex in her wake.

Both Nate and Wessex fall to the ground.
