Hels are better than nothing, even if they’re smaller than what Nate had been hoping for. Apparently the chicken didn’t care about that though, her thundering steps coming closer regardless, which is all the excuse Nate needs to start bolting down the beach. One hel is held out in front of him, flapping wildly, while the other is tucked under his arm like a football, holding it still in case he loses his first lure.
“What nest?” Nate roared back at whatever Harper had transformed into. He doesn’t stop running, desperate to stay out of pecking distance from the giant chicken, but his steps veer towards the jungle, Apopo still the destination as far as he knows.
Nate tucks one hel away and hold the other in front of him while running in the direction of the jungle/Apopo
