As Aurelia's hand reaches into the water, there is nothing for her fingers to close on. Worse still, she's propelled by a momentum that doesn't match that with which she reached for the blade; falling forward, Aurelia falls, and falls, and—
—the water breathes her in, swallowing her, digesting her, and spitting her out the other side.
The girl will emerge in the lake, the trees and her surroundings now utterly disfigured by the mists that lay heavily upon them. The water is freezing, hardening around her throat as she treads water that threatens to make her skin go numb in mere minutes.
