He knocks and he waits, and when she answers? He can tell that the air of excitement and playfulness is gone. He doesn’t blame her, he’s feeling much of the same. But as he goes to step in, it’s just to cross the distance, to wrap his arms around her in a tight hug, to tuck her in against him. “I’m so sorry, Isla.” It’s a deeper rumble, a sort of sadness that comes with complete understanding of what it was like to lose one of the things that meant the most to you.
