Isla can do little more than stand facing Nate at first, the medic blinking stupidly at him as though he's speaking a different language. But he isn't, and the words sink in even though they don't make sense, leaving her reeling all over again. "Oh," she says. "I see." Running her fingers through her hair, she offers Nate an apologetic smile. "I'm sorry, it... this is nothing you've done or anything like that. It's just a surprise, that's all. I didn't realise..."
