NATE
i wish you could see the wicked truth
caught up in a rush, it's killing you
If he’s being honest (and Nate supposes he doesn’t exactly have a choice about that right now) Jack is a surprise. But, he gets to work, jumping right in, and Nate can’t complain about it. Nor can he complain about Sam or the fucking old man, the former earning a wink and the latter earning a sharper scowl and a rough “Not yer kid.” Whatever.

Everyone is eager to get going, the bulk of the stone accounted for between the four of them. Jack leads the way through the water, darkness curling around him even with the short length of the tunnel. The end of it is an awkward twist, and the captain will find the easiest way to manoeuvre the stone through the last push is to pull it behind him, a method that gets him all the way into the cave, but one that wedges the obsidian firmly in the tunnel behind it, plugging it up and blotting out most of the light in the cave.

Obviously, the exit being blocked stops the whole procession, Nate bumping into Varus and whirling in irritation. His face darkens even further when he sees what exactly has happened. It’s fine, he has a hammer back outside, he can just turn around, easy, and they can solve this problem. So Nate goes to turn, and turns his own obsidian in a direction that apparently disagrees with it, since it too gets stuck.

This has to be a joke.

Nate takes a long moment to calm himself, then gestures for Sam to come closer to him, pointing at a gap that only the bookmaker can fit through, then miming a hammer. Once he’s sure Sam gets it, he gestures for Varus to move ahead, so they can try to unstick Jack’s rock from behind.

Lmao bad rolls. Get unstuck from the tunnel and finish moving the obsidian!
screaming at the sun you blow into
curled up in a grip when we were us
