Falling apart would be so easy. This shitty day had gone from bad to terrible, and it was only Harper's grip around her shoulders that kept it from being the absolute worst she'd ever had. There was a slight temptation to just bury her face into his shoulder and weep, like she'd had the chance to before - only that moment was gone. Now she had to walk, and think, and pull herself together just enough to breathe and answer his question.

The vast membraned wings kicked up a storm of dust and wind, and through eyes that had narrowed into needle-thin slits he took in the man, and his bonded. As his jaws opened it was with blueish white flames licking the teeth, a blue-tinted shadow of threatened violence against anyone, anything that had the audacity to get near his human.
Realizing the mistake, Seren turned her back to Harper but stayed close, spreading her arms wide to shield him as much as she could.
"I'm alright, Umbra! Harper saved me, so calm down. Please, tiny. Take it easy."
Soothing thoughts were difficult to summon right now, and the dragon was just as overwhelmed as she was. Her words made him hesitate; the fire died away. Only when Umbra landed did she begin to relax a little - it always shocked her to realize how big he was growing. So quickly too; already the navy scaled shoulders reached her upper thigh.
