And I hope if everybody runs, you choose to stay
Teeth worried against the bottom lip as Locke bristled against her concern. He was right, of course. The war would affect everyone. Yet she couldn't help but feel that there was a difference. A matter of degrees, in terms of how much heat would gather around her versus Maeve.
"No, Locke. Please. It's not that," she interjected, when he brought up her mother. The attunement to Frey, as if she would ever have objections against that. "I know the war is coming. I only worry that the fighting will be harder where I am. Because no matter how devoted Maeve is to my mother, to Safrin... I am her demigod. There is a target painted on my back simply because of that, whether I step onto the battlefield or not."
She reached out a hand for his face, to trail light finger's against his cheek, if he would let her. "I am so honored, Locke, and you don't know how much it means that you really think of me as your sister. I just don't want you to get hurt. Either of you. Not for simply being close to me." Yet she was not so strong or so foolish as to think she could make it on her own either. Safrin had mentioned gathering loved ones and protectors around her, but not until now had Seren understood that it took just as much courage to let other's protect her, as it did to protect in return.
She could never ask Locke to stay away.
