Isla's lips part to speak, but Remi beats her to the punch, and so she wisely lets that thread of conversation go. She isn't here to fight, and she isn't here to create another unpleasant atmosphere between them. And so Isla listens, when Remi begins to speak, hating the truth in his words but understanding it all the same. Her arms wrap around her knees, the medic's brow furrowing as she gazes down at her feet with eyes that sting with tears.
"I wish I could be, Remi," she says softly. "And at least I think I could be, if we took the Grounds out of the question. I don't want to lose you as my friend, and if that means I need to get better at not letting the other roles I have to play get in the way of that, it's what I'll do." Peering up at him, Isla gives him a sad smile.
"I do get it, though, if that isn't enough for you. Or if it wouldn't work. I just..." Isla shrugs. "I have to try."
