Remi had gone to the bookstore first. It seemed a likely enough place to find Sam, and yet the inside was dark and barren. This made him pause. Given that they weren't...well. Remi was all but sure he knew what Sam wanted him to be, and yet he'd rather shamelessly skirted around the question twice now. Something in his heart felt like shards of glass were being pressed into freshly flayed meat whenever Sam hazarded a comment about the future and where the pair of them might find themselves in it. It hurt, because once Remi had done the same, subtly and (at the time he thought) slyly dropping hints, but that future had never come for him.
