Gideon was wrapped up enough in his prayers to not hear Jonah approach; usually he kept an ear out, especially in an area with active Ascended, but something about the crystal structure and the lapping of the waves made him feel safe enough that he didn't have to pay attention to the world outside.
So when Jonah asked his question, the Priest jumped, simply at the sound of a voice - it was when he looked up to confirm that the voice he had just heard was real that Gideon nearly choked. There was a face, older than he remembered, harder, but undeniably his brothers. The brother he had been searching for for years now, that he had assumed dead or in some Ascended brothel being used as a blood bag; there he was, alive and well enough to speak.
Not answering his question, acting on total instinct, all of the rage and panic and affection in Gideon rose up through him in one act; forcing him off of his feet and his hand out: with a mighty swing, he brought it smacking across Jonah's face. "Do you know how long I've been looking for you, asshole?"
